Palin Resigns as Governor of Alaska

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin drops political bombshell, announces she's quitting effective the end of the month.
Now, let the wild speculations begin. Is this another victory of the vast leftwing smear machine?

The problem is that any citizen can file an ethics complaint. All complaints must be investigated and defended, no matter how frivolous.
Perhaps it's time for the legislature to reform the system regarding ethics complaints. If the complaint is found to be frivolous, the state will pay the costs. Either that or make the person who filed the frivolous complaint pay court and lawyer costs.
It's not really fair that a person can find themselves in debt to the tune of $500,000 because of Democrats playing partisan games using unfounded ethical complaints. Maybe conservatives should start filing ethic complaints against progressives in the legislature and give them a taste of their their own medicine.
I'll bet it wouldn't take long to reform the system if that occurred.

Of course it was the edited interview, it worked.
But question. Why are they still attacking her?
Just today someone filed an ethics complaint in Alaska stating she was paid for her interviews. That is a flat out lie but by the rules setup in Alaska they have to investigate and she has to defend the charge. She has racked up over $500,000.00 in legal fees for 15 out of 17 ethics charges being thrown out. The two pending are the one that was filed today and another that will be thrown out when it has it's day in court. By then no doubt there will be another charge.
Who is behind all these frivolous ethics charges being brought up for nothing other than partisan spite?
If she is so dumb, as katie curic dutifully presented, why do they keep attacking her and her family?
BTW, no one ever answered my question about what the reaction would be if the Obama girls were made the butt of jokes about being raped and equally distasteful “jokes”.

In the edited interview, right?

Well what I saw was how she answered questions. That's part of that job…..and it's hard. And it convinced me that she wasn't right. Sorry, but true.

I suspect the only thing you saw was what the media wanted you to see. She was talked about prior to his selection and an up and comer. I recall someone even made the suggestion that she should be the Veep candidate over a year before McCain did make that call.

well this ignores the fact that Curic and CBS EDITED the interview in such a way to make her look like an idiot. They inserted pauses where's she's giving the blank stare before answering. ABC did the same type of hit piece by not airing the Q/A that didn't fit their preconceived mold they had for her. they even edited out some of her answer when it didn't fit what they wanted to present.
She's going to have to push past an openly hostile main stream media to get any headway. Imagine for a moment if the press had taken this approach towards Obama.
In My NOT TO BE HUMBLE OPINION, it's time to remove all those elitist political whores and replace them with a government OF the People. Save a few like Jim DeMint.

Hmm. You may be right there. I had never heard of her until he chose her. What I saw then gave me great concern. She's one of the reasons I couldn't. And that was not an easy change to make.

I agree with Arch.
McCain was the reason McCain lost the election. He suspended his campaign, not to stop the TARP bailout, but to make sure it went though. He lost all credibility with me when he did that. Aside from that, he's the poster child of the neocons. Mr. Amnesty and a guy who says let's work across the aisle to see how we can concede to the progressives and their special interests. That's not what I'm looking for in a leader.
Sarah Palin certainly helped McCain with the base and he wouldn't have finished nearly as strong as he did, if she hadn't have been his running mate. She did make mistakes and had a weak interview with Couric, which exposed her lack of experience on national issues and foreign policy.
I still contend that she is just as qualified as Obama, perhaps even more so, as evidenced by his recent blunders and missteps. At times, it just appears he and his administration have no clue as to what they are doing.
As far as Palin's popularity decreasing after her resignation, it didn't happen, at least with GOP'rs. Matter of fact, according to this poll, it actually went up a little with Republicans.
I suppose those who were never Palin supporters aren't going to be changing their mind and suddenly supporting her, no matter what she does. Whether she's a viable candidate for president is yet to be determined. It might be nice to have someone who isn't an elitist or a professional politician, someone who actually speaks their mind and means what the say, regardless of the political ramifications. For that reason, I'd consider Palin.

Actually she's the only reason many people voted for McCain. Me being one of them.
But as Bill Kristol said the other day, the people being critical of Pailn are the same people who have always been critical of Palin.

If she doesn't want to be labeled a “QUITTER” and her recent news stories on the beach certainly didn't help, even with the folksy fishing costume, then she needs to state what she wants to do.
Surely, the party can find someone more qualified. I can see it now…..”Palin 2012-2014.5″
Personally, I think she's bad baggage that cost McCain the last election. Is that really the best that can be found?

I have not, waiting for it to make the movie channels, I'll watch it then. Considering the subject, I can't see how it's anything but slow. It's a movie about an interview…

Good point. That is what Nixon said but in the end, we still had him to kick around, and we did.
Did you see the Frost/Nixon Movie? I thought Frank Langella was great as Nixon but the movie was a bit slow at times.

Read an article comparing this move to Nixon's “You'll not have Nixon to kick around” move. 6 years later he was swarn in as President. Who knows what's next…

I tend to agree.
She has lots of options open to her. If it were me, I'd certainly signon for a 7 figure book deal and start making paid appearances and speeches. She had better take advantage of her popularity while she can.
We tend to place some people high on a pedestal and it doesn't take much to knock them off of it.
I suspect her political career is far from over..

Who knows, maybe she's steering towards starting a 3rd party.
I don't like that she has quit the job she has but she is correct that she has become a lightening rod and she can not effectively do the job anymore because of the national attention.
I seriously doubt she's done.
Comment by Scott on July 4, 2009 at 7:17 am
Yeah, I like her as well but she needs to be a little more informed when it comes to foreign policy matters.
She is very young so she has plenty of time if she still want to pursue a career in politics. I think she should run for senator as a first step, then she could run for president in 2016 or 2020.
I have my doubts about the GOP being able to run someone that I could support in 2012. I don't see any great candidates at the moment but I guess that could change. If not, I'll just vote 3rd party again. I'm really not happy with either of the two parties we have now. There are just too many crooks in there and lots of people I don't trust to do what they say they will do.

Heard that while driving down road, was surprised. Wonder what she is up too?
I like her, she must scare the left, but dog gone, is she the best we can do?

Let's see how many threads I can close…
Just kidding.
The question was ask is she just quiting. Yes, it would seem so, for now.

Wow, that's pretty shocking. She sure took enough abuse, not only directed at her but her family, as well. Palin is proof that if you're perceived as a real threat by the left, they is no level to which they will not stoop in a effort to destroy you.
She may be able to play the sympathy card at some point in the future and it may be somewhat credible. I don't think her supporters will abandon her if she wants to return to politics.
Then again, she might just be fed up with the whole lot of it and really, who could blame her?
