Allen and I are just simple people with conservative values and not really affiliated with any particular group. This was truly a grassroots event.

Most of us here at The Liberty Journal have conservative and libertarian values as well and we too and not really affiliated with any particular group. I also consider the Columbia tea party to be, for the most part, a grass roots event.

I am on Americans For Prosperity’s emailing list and had written to them to request that they advertise for our event. I was happy to see they did so and wanted to share it with you.

There is certainly nothing wrong with getting publicity wherever you can. I'd put TP announcements up on Huffpo the dailykos, if they would accept them. ;)

I'm not someone who tends to support conspiracy theories and I tend to agree with many of the positions taken by Americans For Prosperity, but I am concerned with their lack of transparency in terms of funding. Their website is very vague in that area and only lists a few small sources of their funding. I think we should all be leery of any group who isn't 100% forthcoming in terms of how they are funded.

I believe Al, another editor here, has researched and is more familiar with Americans For Prosperity than am I. For some reason, their name keeps being associated with the organizing of tea parties, which may or may not be relevant. Perhaps we can get Al to weigh in on those folks. My research has turned up very little on how they are actually funded.

Hi Jennifer.

Are you saying that the July 4th Tea Party was organized by someone associated with Americans For Prosperity?

What relationship does Allen Olson have with that group?

Thanks!!

That's ok Scott. Believe me, we were very proud of all those that were involved. Without them.. it wouldn't have been much of an event. We have many to thank for their involvement, including the SC Fair Tax folks, Charlie Benton, Chaos (the band from Sumter), Talbert Black from Campaign for Liberty, Rocky D (our favorite D.J from Charleston).. etc, not to mention all of our wonderful speakers. They give us great hope in S.C. especially Sen. DeMint and Nikki Haley. I am certain I am forgetting some that made a huge impact regarding our 4th of July Tea Pary and hopefully, they will understand. Like you said.. it's about coming together to promote liberty, freedom, smaller government and lower taxes, no matter your political party affiliation. That was our purpose and will remain so. Hope to see you at the next Tea Party gathering. We will be there!

If you are interested in checking out Allen's webpage and how this got started then please feel free to visit his site...

Take care and God Bless,
Jennifer Olson

(Sorry if this is a repeat message, but we feel the need to thank all those involved. We are extremely grateful. God bless the USA!)

That's for the correction, Jennifer. I wasn't ware that Allen was the organizer. I assumed the fair tax folks were involved, being that's where I got the information regarding the event.

Allen did a fine job and tell him to keep up the great work!!

Scott,

This is a very nice page about the Tea Party in Columbia. I just have a correction for you. The July 4th Tea Party was not organized by the SC Fair Tax folks but instead by my husband, Allen Olson. He did all the work getting this together and I might add.. he did a great job with it. He even built the podium as well. I am very proud of him and his efforts.

With regards,
Jennifer Olson

Maria, I don't have any video of the Columbia Tea Party, except for a small 30 sec clip of DeMint, taken with a small Nikon Coolpix camera.

I have some good pictures though but I don't know if Talbert would want those. I'll contact him and see...

Scott: Can you send Talbert Black coverage of this event in photos/video?
Thanks to everyone who attended TEA parties this weekend. We had a tremendous success in Columbia with a large crowd of ~1200 or so.

I am looking for video of the speakers in Columbia. If you are anyone you know took video of the speakers at the State House that they are willing to share, please let me know. Thanks!

Best regards,
