Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin drops political bombshell, announces she's quitting effective the end of the month.

Now, let the wild speculations begin. Is this another victory of the vast leftwing smear machine?

Wow, that's pretty shocking. She sure took enough abuse, not only directed at her but her family, as well. Palin is proof that if you're perceived as a real threat by the left, they is no level to which they will not stoop in a effort to destroy you.

She may be able to play the sympathy card at some point in the future and it may be somewhat credible. I don't think her supporters will abandon her if she wants to return to politics.

Then again, she might just be fed up with the whole lot of it and really, who could blame her?

But Palin also hinted at her own national ambitions, invoking a quote that she credited to Gen. Douglas MacArthur: "We are not retreating; we are advancing in another direction."

After the news conference, Palin asked supporters to "stay tuned" via Twitter. "We’ll soon attach info on this decision to not seek reelection."

Don't sound like that's someone who's had enough.
You're right, there is no low that a liberal will sink to when they feel threatened. And the way they have continued to attack Palin as a "slutty stewardess" and her children they must be scared out of their panties of her.

Heard that while driving down road, was surprised. Wonder what she is up too?

I like her, she must scare the left, but dog gone, is she the best we can do?

Yeah, I like her as well but she needs to be a little more informed when it comes to foreign policy matters.

She is very young so she has plenty of time if she still want to pursue a career in politics. I think she should run for senator as a first step, then she could run for president in 2016 or 2020.

I have my doubts about the GOP being able to run someone that I could support in 2012. I don't see any great candidates at the moment but I guess that could change. If not, I'll just vote 3rd party again. I'm really not happy with either of the two parties we have now. There are just too many crooks in there and lots of people I don't trust to do what they say they will do.

Who knows, maybe she's steering towards starting a 3rd party.

I don't like that she has quit the job she has but she is correct that she has become a lightening rod and she can not effectively do the job anymore because of the national attention.

I seriously doubt she's done.

I tend to agree.

She has lots of options open to her. If it were me, I'd certainly signon for a 7 figure book deal and start making paid appearances and speeches. She had better take advantage of her popularity while she can.

We tend to place some people high on a pedestal and it doesn't take much to knock them off of it.

I suspect her political career is far from over..

Read an article comparing this move to Nixon's "You'll not have Nixon to kick around" move. 6 years later he was swarn in as President. Who knows what's next…
