Democrat from Oregon Earl Blumenauer co-sponsored legislation, The “Water Protection and Reinvestment Act,” H.R.3202 that, amongst other things, will create taxes to budget the $10 billion annual expenditure to upgrade drinking water and sewer system infrastructure upgrades and expansion.  Part of this is a federal excise tax of 3% on toilet paper that will placed on the manufacturer, then passed along to the consumer.  Here is H.R. 3202 information.

But don’t worry folks.  It being touted as a jobs bill that will create 250,000 jobs.  These guys are on crack and need another fix.

As I was doing some research in some non-profit’s literature, appeared before me was a 2006 picture of John Holdren, Bill Clinton, and this other guy (name not mentioned).  So what, you say.  Well the caption indicates, John Holdren’s Woods Hole Research Center Director accepts $1mil check from Goldman Sachs Center for Environmental Markets (CEM).   John Holdren, Bill Clinton, and Golman Sachs

Woods Hole Research Center describes themselves:

The Woods Hole Research Center is an independent, non-profit  institute  engaged in fundamental environmental science, applied policy analysis, local and regional capacity building, and public and policy-maker education aimed at clarifying the interacting functions of the Earth’s vegetation, soils, water, and climate in support of human well-being and promoting practical approaches to their sustainable management in the human interest.

In other words, they’re another rich environmental think tank 501(c) non-profit with rich members, well connected to the corporate world, who use their income to influence public policy to further increase their wealth.

The Woods Hole Research describes this venture with Goldman Sachs and Bill Clinton:

A new partnership between the Woods Hole Research Center and The Goldman Sachs Center for Environmental Markets (CEM) announced yesterday at the Clinton Global Initiative will develop new market-based approaches to value the sustainable uses of forests for marketable products and ecosystem services.

John Holdren is obviously excited as stated:

It’s particularly gratifying that we developed this project with Goldman Sachs as part of the Clinton Global Initiative – a farsighted effort of the former President to stimulate new partnerships among businesses, researchers, and public-interest organizations to address the great challenges in global health, environment, and economic development…This is not only a grant but also a partnership, in which insights from the Woods Hole Research Center about how forests work and what is needed to keep them working will be linked with expertise at Goldman Sachs about the economic forces and incentives that affect how forests are used and managed.

Maybe Holdren and Goldman Sachs share ideas while they are at the Council on Foreign Relations meeting.  Maybe it’s that John Holdren speaks at Goldman Sach’s conferences, like the “Energy, Environment and the Financial Markets: The Global Opportunity” in London.

Well, they want to make sure they know the value of every last tree and forestland on the earth.  Ok, Goldman Sachs is your company if you want to figure how to equate everything with some monetary value as to create an investment from it.

Now to enforce that idea.  From their website, here is how Goldman Sachs describes the CEM:

The Environmental Markets Group manages the Goldman Sachs Center for Environmental Markets. The Center works with independent partners in the academic and non-government organization communities to examine market-based solutions to environmental challenges. Two of their primary goals are :

  • Market-making in carbon emissions and other climate related commodity markets
  • Launching GS SUSTAIN, a global equity strategy that incorporates environmental, social and governance issues into fundamental analysis of companies

Well, it’s merely the rich using tax free big bucks through non-profits to grease palms and divvy up the spoils of their pillaging of tax-payer coffers.  Only in American politics.

Congressman Alan Grayson, (D) Florida, got the chance today to quiz Ben Bernanke about the Fed’s current lending program to foreign central banks during America’s economic crisis. I like to watch the Federal Reserve Bank personnel squirm in their chairs when testifying in Congress. Unfortunately, Bernanke evades answers like a pro. It’s a required skill you must have to work at he Fed. You notice Barney Frank is quick to shut that questioning down as soon as “the gentleman’s time has expired”.

DeMint fired the first salvo in a war of words between Senator DeMint (R – SC) and President Obama. Regarding the legislature’s health “Insurance” reform programs on the agenda, DeMint said this..

‘If we’re able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him”

This clearly touched a nerve with Obama, who responded..

“Just the other day, one Republican senator said – and I’m quoting him now – ‘If we’re able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him’, Think about that. This isn’t about me. This isn’t about politics. This is about a health care system that is breaking America’s families, breaking America’s businesses, and breaking America’s economy. And we can’t afford the politics of delay and defeat when it comes to health care, not this time, not now.”

So according to Obama, we can’t even take time to read (much less debate) the legislation, lest we enter into the “politics of delay”. Does anyone really believe that pushing this important legislation down our throats, at breakneck speed, is not a political move? The health industry consumes 16% of all spending in the United States and comprises nearly 1/5th of our economy. Shouldn’t we at least read the legislation and have an open debate.

Anyone who thinks the current health “insurance” reforms on the table are sound proposals, just hasn’t bother to read them over, much like their representatives.

I’m too support some form  of health “care” reform. I could even go along with a single payer system, if the insurance companies were out of the picture and the government had a limited role in a true self-insured system.

Unfortunately, that is not going to happen. The progressives are so in bed with the insurance companies, they are going to do the same thing they always do, which is to pretend to help average citizens, while picking the pockets of the taxpayers.

The bills on the table now are mere scams, much like the cap and tax scheme the progressives are so eager to implement. None of this legislation will have the desired affect on health care in America or Worldwide climate change.

The so called “Health Care Crisis” is just another genned up crisis, anyway. There are already programs in place for the poor (Medicaid) and for children (SCHIP). Those who are eligible should simply sign up. There’s an estimated 8-12 million illegals with no insurance, who shouldn’t even be in this country, so we need to make “citizens” prove they are a citizen to receive any government benefits, unless it’s a life and death emergency. Young, healthy people may not need health insurance coverage, except perhaps a catastrophic plan, but the decision should be theirs to make.

The real crisis is out of control spending but there is no evidence the bills currently under consideration are only going to decrease costs. On the contrary, CBO chief stated the bills would actually increase costs.

The health care overhauls released to date would increase, not reduce, the burgeoning long-term health costs facing the government, Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Elmendorf said Thursday.

It’s time for everyone to put down the koolaid and start using some common sense. Put aside the divisive left-vs-right hatred, which serves no purpose in a reasoned debate, get down to business and really work hard to solve this problem the right way.

We need out in the open, transparent debate, where no idea is too small. We need to take our time and get this right. The forcing of flawed legislation down our throats needs to end now and if it doesn’t, DeMint might just be right about Obama’s Waterloo.

Van Jones is the latest Obama Czar appointment with radical roots and a checkered past. He was radicalized in prison, after being arrested during the Rodney King riots in San Francisco.

He is the founder of The Ella Baker Center, as well as a co-founder of STORM (Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement), a “multi-racial activist collective with Marxist influences”, with which Jones was involved.

In an article printed by the East Bay Express (now scrubbed but can be found here ), Jones opined…

“I met all these young radical people of color. I mean really radical, communists and anarchists. And it was, like, This is what I need to be a part of. I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary. I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th and then by August, I was a communist.”

“There is a green wave coming, with renewable energy, organic agriculture, cleaner production,” he said in an interview. “Our question is, will the green wave lift all boats? That’s the moral challenge to the people who are the architects of this new, ecologically sound economy. Will we have eco-equity, or will we have eco-apartheid? Right now we have eco-apartheid. Look at Marin; they’ve got solar this, and bio this, and organic the other, and fifteen minutes away by car, you’re in Oakland with cancer clusters, asthma, and pollution.”

“Before, we would fight anybody, any time,” he said. “No concession was good enough; we never said ‘Thank you.’ Now, I put the issues and constituencies first. I’ll work with anybody, I’ll fight anybody if it will push our issues forward. … I’m willing to forgo the cheap satisfaction of the radical pose for the deep satisfaction of radical ends.”

As many of the progressives have done, Jones has attached himself to the so called “Green Movement”, which is actually just a tool for radicals like Jones to use in an effort to further their social and political agendas.

It should come as no surprise to those who are paying attention, that Obama would appoint a “Green Czar” who is schooled in the precepts of Alinski’s “Rules for Radicals“. He is just another in a long line of appointments with “dubious credentials and troubling backgrounds”.
